Aiirmesh BRINGS WIRELESS BROADBAND TO CITIES LACKING BUILT-IN INFRASTRUCTURE
New Wireless ISP Will Cover Citywide "Hot Zones" Instead
of Individual
Hotspots; First City to Deploy Service to be Announced Shortly
Las Vegas, NV October 21, 2003 Aiirmesh Wireless,
a WiFi high-speed Internet service provider, deploying the
latest in wireless technology, today announced a new ISP service
that will partner with remote cities, rural areas and parts
of cities removed from traditional cable and DSL infrastructure
to provide wireless broadband Internet services. Aiirmesh
expects to announce its first agreement to provide citywide
wireless broadband services for a suburban city in California,
said Aiirmesh CEO Stan Hirschman.
The Aiirmesh™ service can create a three-to-30 mile
"hot zone" in which subscribers can have free-roaming access
to wireless broadband. This service is ideal for a community
that was considered too rural or falling just outside of larger
cities' networks or has not yet become wired for fixed broadband.
Aiirmesh has targeted a number of cities, towns and
districts meeting this criteria, and is also working closely
with the Rural Broadband Coalition (RBC) to identify the broadband
needs of Rural America, which encompasses 75 percent of the
land mass of the nation and 25 percent of the population.
"Tropos Networks is the ideal technology partner for the
Aiirmesh services as our high performance Wi-Fi Cells enable
deployments that were previously difficult or impossible,"
notes Bert Williams, VP of Marketing for Tropos Networks.
"We're excited to help Aiirmesh realize our shared
vision of bringing wireless broadband to every corner of America,
including rural customers or urban customers who fall outside
of existing broadband infrastructure.
"A sizable part of our mission is to make sure that rural
and suburban America do not get passed over by the broadband
revolution," notes Hirschman. "If these areas don't get wired,
then we are looking at some 60 million forgotten people who
could otherwise be a major contributor to our country's productivity."
Hirschman also added that by enabling wireless broadband for
an entire community, it could add jobs in rural communities
by enhancing telecommuting opportunities to major metropolitan
areas.
